Clarke County School Bus Fleet Gets Final Checks Ahead of First Day Back
Mechanics at the Clarke County Board of Education's Grove Hill bus shop readied the district's fleet as Clarke County schools, Thomasville City Schools and Clarke Prep return for the 2026-27 year.
GROVE HILL, Ala. — Inside the Clarke County Board of Education’s bus shop, mechanics spent the days leading up to the new school year making sure every bus in the district’s fleet was ready to roll.
Kevin Jackson, a mechanic at the bus shop in Grove Hill, was among those working through the district’s lineup of buses this week, jump-starting one before sending it back into rotation. The routine but essential work is part of an annual push to get every vehicle in the fleet inspected, charged and road-ready before students climb aboard for the first day of classes.
Staggered Start Dates Across the County
Clarke County’s public schools, along with Jackson Academy, started classes Thursday, Aug. 6. Thomasville City Schools got an earlier jump, resuming classes Monday, Aug. 3, while Clarke Prep students have a bit more summer left, with classes set to begin Aug. 14.
The Clarke County Board of Education has spent much of the summer preparing for the 2026-27 school year, including approving new staff hires ahead of the fall term.
