The Crescent Theater on Dauphin Street turns fully haunted this October, hosting ShocktoberFest — a late-night horror film series assembled by the Nightmare Chambers crew that pairs beloved cult classics with rare screenings and in-person celebrity appearances.
Most films screen at 11:30 p.m. and cost $7. The series opens Oct. 1 with Vincent Price and Peter Cushing in “Madhouse” (1974), followed by “Halloween III: Season of the Witch” (Oct. 6), an encore of Tobe Hooper’s “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” (Oct. 13), “Tales from the Crypt” with Joan Collins (Oct. 14), Gene Wilder’s “Young Frankenstein” (Oct. 15) and Vincent Price again in “The Last Man on Earth” (Oct. 20).
Two special events headline the month. On Oct. 21, the 1984 cult oddity “Blood Suckers from Outer Space” screens in a rare 35mm print with a live Skype question-and-answer session with director Glen Coburn. On Oct. 22, Alex Vincent — Andy Barclay from “Child’s Play” — appears in person for a Q&A; that screening is $10, with autographs available for $10.
The series closes in style with “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” on Oct. 28 and John Landis’s “An American Werewolf in London” on Halloween night.
