Sheriff patrol car responding at night in Baldwin County, Alabama

Suspects Sought After Home Invasion Shooting Near Daphne

James Bullard, December 15, 2014

Baldwin County sheriff’s deputies are asking for the public’s help identifying three men suspected of forcing their way into a mobile home east of Daphne and opening fire on two people inside.

According to investigators, the break-in happened at night along Friendship Road when the three suspects entered the residence and demanded money from a man who was in bed at the time. A struggle followed, and the resident was shot once in the lower back during the confrontation. A neighbor who heard the disturbance rushed over to help and was also shot, taking a round to the abdomen.

Both victims were taken to area hospitals for treatment — one to a facility in Pensacola and the other to a Mobile medical center. Authorities said the injuries, while serious, did not appear to be life-threatening, and both men were listed in stable condition following the attack.

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office described the suspects as three Black men whose identities remain unknown. Investigators have not released additional details about the men’s appearance, a getaway vehicle, or a possible motive beyond the apparent attempt to rob the home’s occupant.

Home invasions remain relatively rare in the rural pockets east of Daphne, where mobile home communities sit along winding county roads with limited street lighting and spotty cell coverage — factors that can complicate both response times and after-the-fact investigations. Neighbors in the area described the incident as unsettling, noting that such violent confrontations are unusual for the close-knit community.

The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about the suspects’ identities or whereabouts to come forward. Tips can help investigators build a case even without physical evidence recovered at the scene, and deputies have emphasized that callers can remain anonymous.

Cases like this one underscore the importance of community vigilance in unincorporated parts of Baldwin County, where sheriff’s patrols cover wide territory and residents often serve as the first line of awareness for suspicious activity. Local law enforcement continues to encourage residents to report unfamiliar vehicles or people in their neighborhoods promptly.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation remains open as authorities continue working to identify and locate the three men involved.
