Daphne police are continuing to search for a second suspect after a shootout between two people in a residential subdivision left one of them wounded and facing a burglary charge.
Officers with the Daphne Police Department responded Tuesday afternoon to reports of gunfire in the Daphmont Subdivision. When authorities arrived, neither person believed to be involved in the shooting was still on the scene, according to police.
Investigators later determined that 18-year-old Brandon Nail Reed, of Mobile, was one of the two people involved and had suffered a gunshot wound to his leg during the exchange of gunfire. According to police, Reed forced his way into a nearby home at gunpoint in an apparent effort to avoid being caught, before ultimately fleeing the area.
Reed later sought treatment for his injury at a hospital in Mobile. Investigators tracked him down and took him into custody Tuesday night, transporting him to the Baldwin County Corrections Center, where he was booked on one count of first-degree burglary tied to his forced entry into the residence, according to jail records.
As of Wednesday morning, Reed remained jailed without bond. Police have not disclosed what led to the shooting or the relationship, if any, between Reed and the second person involved.
The second suspect had not been located as of Wednesday and remained at large. Investigators have not released a physical description or additional identifying details about that individual, and no charges have yet been announced in connection with that person’s alleged role in the incident.
Daphne police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. The Daphmont Subdivision incident adds to a string of firearm-related cases investigators in Baldwin County have handled this spring, though authorities have not indicated any connection between this case and other recent reports.
Investigators emphasized that the inquiry remains active and said additional details, including a possible motive, could be released as the case develops. Residents in the area were not reported to be in danger following the arrest, though police continue to urge caution and prompt reporting of any suspicious activity connected to the case.
