Missing Baldwin County Teen Found Safe Near Bon Secour

James Bullard, June 2, 2015

An 18-year-old Baldwin County woman who had been missing for more than a week was found safe, bringing a quick resolution to a search that had drawn community attention around Foley.

Bailey Ann West was last seen near Foley on May 21, according to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, which asked the public for help locating her after family and friends were unable to reach her for several days. Investigators listed her as missing and possibly in danger while the search continued.

West was located safe on a Tuesday evening in the Bon Secour community, according to authorities, who said she had left on her own accord. No foul play was reported, and the case was closed once she was confirmed safe.

Missing person cases involving young adults in Baldwin County typically prompt a coordinated response between the sheriff’s office and local media, with investigators relying on public tips to help track down leads. In this case, the sheriff’s office credited community attention with helping bring about a quick and safe resolution.

Authorities did not release additional details about the circumstances that led to West leaving the area, citing the resolution of the case and her return to her family.

The case served as a reminder of how quickly missing person alerts can circulate through a close-knit coastal community like Baldwin County, where sheriff’s office bulletins are often shared widely within hours of being issued.

Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office investigators thanked residents who shared information during the search, saying public tips are frequently the deciding factor in resolving missing person cases quickly and safely.
