MOBILE, Ala. — After a punishing heat wave last week that triggered excessive heat warnings and heat advisories across the region, a drier air mass is moving into South Alabama this week, bringing lower humidity, more sunshine and a welcome break from dangerously high temperatures.
Monday: Partly Cloudy and Much More Comfortable
Monday is expected to bring partly cloudy skies with highs in the low 90s. The heat index is forecast to peak around 95 degrees, roughly 15 degrees better than what residents endured last week during the excessive heat event. Overnight temperatures will dip into the low 70s, offering a more pleasant evening for outdoor activities than the region has seen in recent weeks.
Tuesday and Wednesday: Dry Conditions Continue
The drier air mass is expected to linger through the middle of the week. Both Tuesday and Wednesday should see highs in the low 90s with continued partly cloudy skies. Rain chances remain isolated, giving residents a break from the frequent afternoon showers that have been common this summer.
Thursday and Friday: Humidity Returns
By Thursday and Friday, forecasters expect humidity to build back into the region as the front responsible for this week’s drier stretch washes out. That should bring a slight uptick in scattered showers and storms, though nothing severe is expected at this time.
Tropical Update
The tropics remain quiet, with no tropical storm formation expected across the Gulf or Atlanic basins over the next seven days.
Beach Conditions
After a rough weekend that included a rip current statement for Mobile and Baldwin coastal counties, rip current risk is expected to ease slightly to moderate on Monday, with conditions improving further to a low risk by Tuesday and Wednesday at area beaches.
