An unusually varied bill rolls into downtown Mobile this Saturday, Feb. 2, when Soul Kitchen (218 Dauphin St.) hosts four acts spanning Southern rock, alt-country and dreamy synth pop. Doors open at 7 p.m.; tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.
The night doubles as a showcase for Skate Mountain Records, the label sending two of its acts — singer-songwriter Abe Partridge and rising Southern rockers The Red Clay Strays.
Partridge brings poetry and a punk side
Mobile’s Abe Partridge has built a following on offbeat lyric poetry delivered in a raw, weathered voice seasoned by hard living. For this show he’ll also pull back the curtain on his longtime underground rock project, The Psych Peas (Psychedelic Peacocks), giving fans a taste of his noisier alternative side.
Red Clay Strays hint at new music
Fellow Skate Mountain signees The Red Clay Strays bring their electrifying live show, packed with modern Southern rock and alt-country. The band has been grinding it out on regular road trips, and time logged at Studio 74 suggests a long-awaited album could be on the horizon — making this set one to catch early.
Della Memoria returns to the Bay area
Rounding out the bill, Mississippi duo Della Memoria returns to Mobile supporting its latest EP, “The Ebb.” While much modern synth music leans toward the dance floor, Della Memoria trades in soothing, clean arrangements and sweet vocals — a rarer commodity on the Gulf Coast than it should be.
