Grove Hill’s Jackson Street Repaving Project Nears Completion
The repaving of Jackson Street (Highway 295) in Grove Hill is nearly finished, and the city has applied for grants to resurface Church Street and streets in the Wilson Hall neighborhood next.
After weeks of lane closures and detours, the repaving of Jackson Street in Grove Hill is nearing completion, offering relief to motorists and business owners along the busy corridor.
Jackson Street, also known as Highway 295, runs through the heart of downtown Grove Hill and carries heavy traffic throughout the day. Crews were on site Monday finishing work at intersections along the route, including at Main Street.
Gary Horton, owner of B&H Parts on Jackson Street, said the paving crews worked to minimize disruption to nearby businesses, scheduling some of the work during evenings and weekends to avoid the busiest daytime hours.
Striping and Future Projects
Grove Hill Mayor Ross Wood said the paving contractor plans to stripe parking spaces on the newly laid asphalt once the repaving work wraps up.
City officials are also looking ahead to additional road work. Grove Hill has applied for grants to resurface Church Street as well as streets within the Wilson Hall neighborhood, part of a broader effort to maintain the city’s road infrastructure.
Grove Hill is the county seat of Clarke County. Cities and counties across Alabama receive a share of state fuel-tax revenue for road work, a share that grew under the Rebuild Alabama Act of 2019, which raised the state gas tax by 10 cents a gallon in phases and set up an annual state grant program for local road and bridge projects.
