Gulf Shores Hotel Disturbance Leads to Three Felony Sex Abuse Charges Against Millbrook Man

What Officers Found
Officers with the Gulf Shores Police Department were dispatched to a hotel in the 1700 block of Gulf Shores Parkway at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026. On arrival they made contact with a group staying at the property: an adult male, two adult females and a juvenile. The group told officers they had traveled to Gulf Shores to attend a concert and were registered guests at the hotel.
During that conversation, one of the adult women disclosed that earlier in the evening, before anyone called police, she had been forced to physically resist forcible sexual advances by a member of her own family. Patrol officers immediately escalated the matter, and detectives from the department’s Criminal Investigations Division were called in.
The Charges
As a result of that investigation, Todd Sterlin Trolinger Jr., 37, of Millbrook, Alabama, was arrested and charged with three counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. He is being held at the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.
Under Alabama law, sexual abuse in the first degree is a Class C felony. It covers subjecting another person to sexual contact by forcible compulsion, or subjecting a person who is incapable of consent to sexual contact. A Class C felony in Alabama carries a sentencing range of one year and one day to ten years in prison, and each count is charged separately. Three counts therefore represent substantial potential exposure.
Charges are accusations. Trolinger is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
A Widened Investigation
The most consequential detail in the case is what came after the arrest. The Gulf Shores Police Department has partnered with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) to broaden the scope of the investigation. Authorities have not said which additional avenues they are pursuing, and they have confirmed the case remains ongoing.
That partnership carries a plain implication. A local department investigating a single incident inside its own city limits does not typically need a state agency’s assistance. Bringing in ALEA suggests investigators are examining whether there is conduct beyond the boundaries of this one hotel room, in jurisdictions Gulf Shores police cannot reach on their own.
Investigators made that reading explicit in their public appeal.
