A Mobile-area independent press has announced a pair of literary projects headed for shelves in the coming months, led by the first print edition of Janet Nodar’s story collection “Trumpet Field and Other Stories.”
The collection previously circulated only as a digital release. The print version adds a story that never appeared in the e-book edition and showcases Nodar’s fiction about the Gulf Coast — work that draws on a life spent moving through the region and returns often to its waterways, small towns and complicated family ties. The book is available now from online retailers, with copies expected in area stores before the end of October.
An anthology and a biography on the way
The same press is behind “Tributaries 2012,” the new anthology of poetry and short fiction gathering fourteen Mobile Bay area writers, including Thomas Perez, Gideon C. Kennedy, Ronald F. Turner, Marjorie Turner, C.J. Petterson, Joyce Scarbrough and Samuel Wilkes. The anthology spans genres from traditional Southern narrative to experimental prose and is being pitched as an introduction to both emerging voices and established local authors.
Publishers say both titles are timed for the holiday season, with book signings and author appearances planned in the coming months. And there is more on the horizon: early 2013 will bring what the press bills as the first-ever biography of one of Mobile’s most notable historic figures.
