MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama senior Kaitlyn Griffith was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Monday after helping the No. 22-ranked Jaguars win four of five games last week.
A Productive Week
Griffith batted .467 (7-for-15) over the five games with nine RBIs, four runs scored, two home runs and a sacrifice fly. She posted a .933 slugging percentage for the week.
Her biggest game came in South Alabama’s 14-6 victory over Ball State, the 2014 Mid-American Conference champion. Griffith hit two home runs and drove in a career-high six runs, tying two Jaguar single-game records.
Her six RBIs were the most by a South Alabama player in a game since Britany Campbell drove in six against Southeastern Louisiana on March 7, 2012.
Griffith also drew a two-out walk against Nicholls State that loaded the bases ahead of the Jaguars’ go-ahead run.
Season and Career Marks
Through 14 games, Griffith has 14 RBIs this season. She has moved into a tie for fifth on South Alabama’s career home run list.
Second Weekly Honor for Jaguars
Griffith is the second South Alabama player to earn a weekly Sun Belt award through the first three voting periods of the season. Freshman Devin Brown was named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 9, the first voting period of the year.
