Mobile’s own Delta Reign has released Home, a new fourteen-track album the band describes as the product of long hours and more than a few hurdles — six original songs, four bluegrass covers and four traditional tunes, all professionally mastered and out in time for Christmas.
An Album with a Delta Menu
The packaging leans into the band’s Gulf Coast roots. Graphic artist Jennifer Morgan designed artwork with what the band calls a swampy vibe and a restaurant-menu theme suggesting the bounty of the region, with delta imagery throughout from photographer David Trimmier. Inside the six-panel CD sits something unusual: a custom recipe from gourmet chef Tony Nicholas of Mobile’s Hungry Owl Eatery — a “Five Rivers Delta Coubion” full of delta ingredients that Nicholas featured at his restaurant and plans to serve again at the band’s Mobile CD release party in January.
Band member Benita Averett Murphy says buyers who pick up a copy at a show also get an 11-by-17 poster of the album artwork.
Where to Find It
The CD is available through the band’s website via PayPal, on Amazon, or by mail order for $16. Locally it’s stocked at Dr. Music at 9 N. Church St. in Fairhope and Carpe Diem Coffee & Tea Company on Old Shell Road in Spring Hill.
A Busy Holiday Schedule
Delta Reign kicks off the 92 ZEW Christmas “All Star Revue” with holiday songs during a live broadcast from the Bluegill Restaurant on the causeway in Spanish Fort on December 14, joining eight to ten artists performing for the live delta-side broadcast. On December 18 the band plays the Five Rivers Delta Resource Center’s free family “Holiday Celebration,” which runs noon to 3 p.m. with pontoon rides, ornament making and a kayak parade. The duo side of the band appears December 29 at the Midtown Mellow Mushroom.
The full-band Mobile release party follows after Christmas, anchored by the 92 ZEW second-Tuesday live broadcast from the Bluegill on January 11, 2011.
