MOBILE, Ala. — Mobile Fire-Rescue crews contained a house fire in the Dog River area on Saturday afternoon without any injuries, according to department officials.
Crews were dispatched to the 2300 block of Dog River Drive at approximately 2:04 p.m. The first company arrived about five minutes later, at roughly 2:09 p.m., and reported smoke visible at the front of a single-story house, pushing out through the front door.
No residents were found inside the structure. Firefighters moved into active fire operations and knocked down all visible fire without complication.
Incident Command reported the fire under control at approximately 2:28 p.m. — about 20 minutes after the first unit arrived on scene — and confirmed no injuries to residents or firefighters.
Cause still under investigation
Mobile Fire-Rescue officials said an active investigation is underway to determine what started the fire. No cause had been released as of Saturday evening, and the department did not indicate whether the home was occupied at the time of the call or how much damage the structure sustained.
A busy stretch for the department
The call adds to an active run of structure fires for Mobile Fire-Rescue this month. The department has responded to house fires across the city through August, and has paired that work with prevention efforts, including a recent smoke alarm installation campaign in Mobile neighborhoods.
Fire officials routinely encourage residents to test smoke alarms monthly, replace batteries twice a year, and keep at least two exit routes clear from every sleeping area. Working smoke alarms remain the single most reliable factor in surviving a residential fire, particularly overnight.
