MOBILE, Ala. — The Mobile City Council is set to take up a resolution Tuesday approving a purchase order for Jimmy Buffett perforated window display wraps at the Maritime Museum.

The resolution would approve a purchase order to Gwins Stationery & Engraving, Inc. for the wraps at a cost of $27,931.50.

What Perforated Window Wraps Do

Perforated window film is a common museum and retail treatment: from the outside it reads as a full-color graphic, while from the inside it remains largely see-through, preserving natural light and views. For a waterfront museum building, it turns exterior glass into large-format signage without darkening the interior.

The Exhibit Behind the Purchase

The National Maritime Museum of the Gulf is scheduled to open The Jimmy Buffett: Son of a Son of a Sailor Experience on Sept. 12.

Buffett, who spent formative years in Mobile and whose family’s maritime history runs through the Gulf Coast, is among the region’s most recognizable cultural exports — and the museum’s framing of the exhibit around a sailing lineage rather than strictly a music career fits the institution’s maritime remit.

Council Action

The resolution appears on the council’s meeting agenda Tuesday. Purchase orders of this size routinely come before the full council for approval as part of the city’s procurement process.
