Mobile police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot during an argument earlier this week, though the victim’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
According to a Mobile Police Department news release, officers were called to a local hospital Monday at about 12:48 p.m. after a man arrived with a gunshot wound. When officers met with him, he had a minor, non-life-threatening injury.
The man told investigators he had been struck by gunfire after a verbal altercation broke out with someone he knew. Police say the shooting itself did not happen at the hospital; the victim was brought there separately for treatment, and detectives have not yet released where or exactly when the confrontation that led to the shooting took place.
The Mobile Police Department is treating the case as first-degree assault and says the investigation remains open as of Tuesday. No arrests have been announced, and a spokesperson has not said whether officers have identified or located the person accused of firing the gun.
Shootings that stem from arguments between people who know each other are common in Mobile’s crime data, and cases like this one often hinge on witness cooperation and follow-up interviews rather than physical evidence collected at a single scene.
