The Mexia community in Monroe County is mourning the death of Cana Lambert, a firefighter with the Mexia Volunteer Fire Department and member of the Monroe County Rescue Squad, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Lambert served as a lieutenant with the Mexia Volunteer Fire Department and was a familiar presence at emergency scenes across the rural community. She was also an active member of Mexia Baptist Church, where she was known for her work with the church’s youth.

‘The World Is a Little Darker’

“The world is a little darker without the smile of Cana Lambert,” the sheriff’s office said in its tribute to the first responder.

Sheriff Tom Boatwright asked for prayers for the Lambert family and for the communities honoring her service.
