Former South Alabama Volleyball Player Olivia Mohler to Pursue Pro Career at Slovenia Camp

Former South Alabama volleyball player Olivia Mohler will attend a showcase camp in Maribor, Slovenia, in pursuit of a professional contract in Europe.

Former South Alabama volleyball player Olivia Mohler will travel to Slovenia next week to pursue a professional contract in Europe, choosing that path over several other opportunities she reportedly received as she approaches graduation.

Coaching and Basketball Offers

Mohler, a 6-foot-2 senior, has reportedly received offers to become head varsity volleyball coach at Ocean Springs High School and St. Martin High School.

She also reportedly drew interest from the South Alabama women’s basketball team about spending her one remaining year of college eligibility on the court, even though she has not played competitive basketball since high school. Mohler gave serious consideration to the basketball opportunity but said volleyball is where her heart lies.

Showcase in Maribor

Instead, Mohler will continue her volleyball career. She is scheduled to leave Aug. 7 for Maribor, Slovenia, where she will take part in the Firesale and Exposure Camp at the DRAS Center.

The camp brings together aspiring professional players who compete in matches in front of coaches and teams from across Europe. Of the 28 players who attended last year’s camp, 22 were offered professional contracts.

Decision Ahead of Final Year

Mohler still has one year of college eligibility remaining, but she has chosen to focus on landing a professional volleyball contract rather than using that year on the basketball court. The Maribor camp will give her the opportunity to be evaluated in live matches by multiple European coaches and clubs at the same event.

If Mohler earns a contract, she would spend seven to nine months of each year playing in Europe.
