Omari Jazz Brings Electronic Soundscapes to LIVE at the Museum Series
Birmingham-based electronic producer Omari Jazz performs at the Mobile Museum of Art's Thursday Night Concert Series, with doors at 7 p.m.
The Mobile Museum of Art continues its Thursday Night Concert Series with a performance by Omari Jazz, an electronic producer and visual artist whose work sits at the intersection of composition and improvisation.
Jazz, formerly of Brooklyn and now based in Birmingham, builds looping layers of drums and samples that draw on hip-hop, early-1970s rock and soul, exploring the relationship between sight, sound, harmony and dissonance. He has released beat tapes on the Alabama label Step Pepper Records, appeared on Birmingham Mountain Radio and Red Light Radio in Amsterdam, and performs regularly across the Southeast. He is currently working on a new album titled Image on Space, and also records with fellow producer Jack Vogt as the duo Lazydawg.
Doors open at 7 p.m., with a $10 suggested donation and beer and wine available by donation.
LIVE at the Museum celebrates homegrown and regional performance art across genres, from songwriters and gospel singers to poets, jazz and contemporary dance. Each Thursday evening the art museum keeps its galleries open four additional hours, free of charge courtesy of the city of Mobile, presenting programs in music, theater, film, design, dance, literature and culture — an alternative to the bar scene that puts audiences inside the museum itself.
The Mobile Museum of Art, at 4850 Museum Drive in Langan Park, traces its roots to 1964, when it opened as the Fine Arts Museum of the South.
