An October 2012 concert at Mobile’s Portal Studio by the experimental duo The Home of Easy Credit found new life as a live bootleg release, packaged alongside a recording from the band Beach Weather from the same evening.
A Married Duo Defying Genre
The Home of Easy Credit is the joint project of Danish multi-instrumentalist Louise Dam Eckardt Jensen and bassist Tom Blancarte, two musicians who met in New York in 2008 and married a year later. Their music pushes across the boundaries of free-improvised music, jazz, folk and pop with an approach that resists easy classification.
The pair took their name from a department store sign they photographed in a dilapidated section of downtown Houston while on tour. In 2012 they released their self-titled debut album on the Northern Spy label, building a reputation for dark, intense soundscapes that their promotional materials described as holding up a mirror to contemporary musical tastes — a thrilling, unsettled reflection on modern life.
The bootleg captured the duo’s Portal Studio performance for Mobile listeners who missed the one-night engagement, documenting the raw interplay between Jensen’s reeds and vocals and Blancarte’s bass in an intimate studio setting.
