For anyone planning an evening in downtown Mobile’s entertainment district, T.P. Crockmier’s at 250 Dauphin Street has quietly built one of the city’s more distinctive drink menus — original cocktails alongside new twists on familiar standards, served in a spacious room that has become a Dauphin Street fixture.

House Signatures

The White Peach Sangria is the house specialty: White Zinfandel, peach schnapps, pineapple juice and Sprite over citrus fruit and a cherry. Its counterpart, the Red Raspberry Sangria, starts from a red wine base with raspberry schnapps, cranberry juice and orange juice. Both are available only here.

The bar’s most local drink is the Mobile Mystic, a blue-green martini combining Absolut Citron, Midori, blue Curacao and pineapple juice — named for the Mardi Gras society of the same title and a nod to the city’s carnival roots. Classics get attention too, including a Mudslide of chocolate, Baileys Irish Cream, vodka and Kahlua that lands closer to dessert than a drink.

The Bloody Mary may be the kitchen-and-bar’s best argument. Rather than pour from a premade mix, employee Jack Weldon builds his Jack’s Homemade Bloody Mary from scratch with beef bouillon, hot sauce and horseradish, finishing each glass with lemon, lime, celery, pickled okra and olives.

A Place With History

“Customers come here because we have original drinks at a reasonable price and we are right here in the middle of Dauphin Street where everything happens,” employee David Love said.

The regulars span generations. “We have many who have been coming to our Sunday brunch for over 40 years,” employee Karen Leppo said. “Some of the married couples had their first date at Crockmier’s.” For staff member Angela Wright, four years in, the appeal is simpler: “It is like a family. We have a great atmosphere, and people feel at home.”
