The Dauphin Street Vault, one of Mobile’s most distinctive athletic competitions, has been certified as a World Athletics Continental Tour Challenge competition, giving the downtown event international sanctioning and a place on the world track and field calendar.
The event is held on a stretch of road between Jackson and Joachim streets that is closed to traffic, allowing elite pole vaulters to compete directly in front of street-level crowds in a downtown Mobile setting rather than inside a traditional stadium. With World Athletics certification now in place, results from the 2026 Dauphin Street Vault will count toward world-ranking points that factor into qualification for major international championships, putting Mobile’s event on the same competitive calendar as internationally recognized meets.
Past editions of the Dauphin Street Vault have generated an estimated $8.8 million in economic impact for the city, underscoring the event’s significance beyond its athletic profile as a driver of downtown tourism and hospitality business during the competition.
