The Satsuma Water & Sewer Department, located at 5502 Old Highway 43 in Satsuma, is reminding residents of its office hours, payment options and billing policies as the utility continues to serve customers throughout the small Mobile County city.

The department’s office is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. For customers who prefer not to visit in person, online bill payment is available around the clock, seven days a week, allowing residents to manage their accounts at any hour.

Customers who would rather not pay online also have the option of paying by phone. The department offers a toll-free number, 1-866-907-7085, that customers can call at any time to make a payment without visiting the office in person or logging into the online portal.

For residents who want the full functionality of the online system, creating an account allows customers to view their amount due, store payment methods for one-click payments, review past bills and payment history, set up automatic payments, and sign up for payment reminders so bills aren’t missed. Setting up an account requires a customer number and four-digit PIN, both of which are printed on the customer’s paper bill.

Mission and Service Philosophy

According to the department, its overarching goal is to provide water and wastewater services at the highest level of quality while keeping costs as economical as possible for customers. Department officials say the utility’s governing Board makes decisions with customers’ best interests in mind, aiming to build confidence within the community it serves.

The Board’s mission statement outlines three core responsibilities: providing abundant, affordable and high-quality drinking water; ensuring environmentally sound and affordable wastewater treatment and disposal; and delivering efficient, reliable and courteous service to customers. That mission, the department says, forms the foundation for its operational and financial planning, as well as performance standards for employees across its systems.

Billing and Payment Policies

Water bills are mailed out on the first of each month and are due upon receipt. Customers who do not pay on time should be aware that a 10% late fee is applied on the 16th of the month, and cutoff can occur on the 21st if a bill remains unpaid. The department notes that failing to receive a bill in the mail does not relieve customers of their payment obligation, so residents are encouraged to track due dates independently or use the department’s online account tools.

Garbage Collection Included on the Water Bill

Satsuma residents also see a garbage collection fee of $24.50 per month included on their water bill. Garbage pickup occurs twice a week throughout the city. Questions or complaints about garbage service should be directed to Satsuma Public Works at 679-3182, rather than the water and sewer department itself, since that division handles waste collection separately from water and sewer operations.

Satsuma, located in Mobile County along Old Highway 43, is one of several small municipalities north of Mobile that operate their own local utility boards to manage water, sewer and related services for residents. Customers with questions about their accounts, service interruptions or billing can visit the department’s office during business hours or use its online portal to manage payments at their convenience.
