The second annual Cocktails & Furrytails fundraiser filled the newly renovated Steeple in downtown Mobile on Oct. 6, from 6 to 9 p.m. Animal lovers of all ages gathered to support Save a Stray, a rescue founded in 2012 that has placed more than 3,000 pets through adoption and transport.
President Stephanie Eads-Williamson said the event topped last year’s success and met its goal of covering 25 percent of operating costs, with hopes of reaching 50 percent with just two fundraisers a year. Proceeds pay for vet care, food and two children’s programs.
Bay Gourmet catered a buffet of Creamy Creole Chicken and Marinated Shrimp, a silent auction let guests crown Mobile “Dog Town” or “Kitty City,” and musician Marcus Elizondo performed on the Steeple’s new sound system. Save a Stray needs volunteers to foster and help with classes for at-risk youth; the group addresses the city’s persistent pet overpopulation through adoption and spay-neuter programs.
