South Alabama Baseball Opens Series at Georgia State With Locke St. John on the Mound

South Alabama baseball, winners of three of four, opens a Sun Belt series at Georgia State with Locke St. John starting Friday.

MOBILE, Ala. — The South Alabama baseball team opens a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at Georgia State in Atlanta on Friday at 5 p.m. Central, sending left-hander Locke St. John (5-1) to the mound against Panthers left-hander Kenny Anderson (4-3).

Pitching Matchups

Game two is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, with right-hander Kevin Hill (3-5) facing Georgia State right-hander Nathan Bates (1-2).

Sunday’s finale begins at noon, with Hunter Soleymani (0-2) scheduled to start against Aidan McLaughlin (1-1).

Jaguars Have Won Three of Four

South Alabama enters the weekend 20-24 overall and 9-11 in Sun Belt play. The Jaguars have won three of their last four games, taking two of three from Louisiana-Monroe last weekend before a high-scoring midweek win at Alabama State.

South Alabama is in sixth place in the conference, a game and a half behind Western Kentucky and UT Arlington, who are tied for fourth at 11-10.

Louisiana-Lafayette leads the Sun Belt at 18-3 and is 41-6 overall. The Ragin’ Cajuns were ranked third nationally in Monday’s poll, behind top-ranked Virginia and No. 2 Oregon State. LSU was ranked fifth, Florida State sixth, South Carolina seventh, Alabama 20th and Mississippi State 23rd.

Softball Closes Regular Season

The No. 21 South Alabama softball team concludes its regular season with a Senior Day doubleheader against Troy beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jaguar Field. Julie Moss and Hannah Campbell, the team’s only seniors, will be honored.

The Jaguars have clinched the No. 2 seed for the Sun Belt Conference Championship, which begins May 7 in Lafayette, La. Louisiana-Lafayette has secured the top seed and will host the tournament.
