A police pursuit that wound through west Mobile traffic ended on Schillinger Road with two people under arrest.
Mobile police said the chase began when officers spotted a truck reported stolen out of Mississippi and tried to pull it over. The driver refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit that carried down Airport Boulevard in heavy traffic before ending near St. Augustine Drive on Schillinger Road Thursday evening.
Two Arrested at the Scene
Robert Ayer, 28, and Chelsea Haney, 19, were taken into custody after the truck slid off the roadway. The pursuit left its mark on pursuing units as well — a tow truck had to pull two Mobile police cruisers out of the mud after they got stuck during the chase.
Close Call for Bystanders
The end of the pursuit played out just outside an auto shop, where workers said they hit the floor as officers converged on the stopped truck with weapons drawn, shouting commands at the occupants. One worker described hearing a wall of sirens before the truck slid into rocks along the roadside and was boxed in.
No injuries were reported in the incident, according to information released by police.
