Mobile police handled two separate vehicle theft cases involving young suspects over a single weekend earlier this month.
According to the department, officers were first called to the 800 block of Downtowner Boulevard on Saturday, Dec. 3, for a report of vehicle burglaries. Investigators learned that a juvenile had taken someone’s car from a gas station on the same street moments earlier.
Juvenile Taken Into Custody
The teen ran when officers approached but was quickly caught and taken into custody. Because he is a juvenile, his name has not been released. He was transported to the Strickland Youth Center following his arrest.
Stolen Motorcycle Case Still Open
The next evening, around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the area of San Marino Drive after a motorcycle was reported stolen. When they arrived, they detained several suspects at the scene, including juveniles.
Investigators determined the motorcycle had been purchased by another man — not the juvenile initially suspected. Police say that man remains at large as the search to identify and locate him continues.
The case is still an open investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mobile Police Department.
