CLARKE COUNTY, Ala. — All schools in the Clarke County system shifted to remote instruction for one week as COVID-19 absences climbed among students and staff, Superintendent Larry Bagley announced Friday.
Virtual learning runs Monday, Jan. 10, through Monday, Jan. 17. Bagley said faculty and staff will work a regular week while custodians use the district’s specialized cleaning equipment and products to cut down on contamination in school buildings.
The move followed a Friday when roughly 200 Clarke County students were absent because of COVID-19. Bagley said 18 teachers were out as well, along with three nurses and five bus drivers.
Students are expected back in classrooms Tuesday, Jan. 18. Bagley said the district will keep monitoring COVID-19 numbers and adjust as needed.
