Escambia County Fire Rescue Crews Stand By in School Zones to Boost Driver Safety
Escambia County Fire Rescue crews are stationing trucks with lights activated in school zones to remind drivers to slow down as students return.
Escambia County Fire Rescue firefighters are continuing safety standbys in school zones across the county as students return for the new school year.
Fire trucks have been stationed in school zones with emergency lights activated, a visual reminder for drivers to slow down and watch for children walking or being dropped off near schools.
The added presence comes during the first weeks of the school year, when increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic around campuses can make school zones more hazardous for children.
School zone rules in Florida
Under Florida law, school zone speed limits are set between 15 and 20 mph and apply when the zone’s flashing beacons are active or during posted times. Drivers caught speeding in an active school zone pay double the normal fine.
