FOLEY, Ala. — The city of Foley has a new public space: Pine Street Park, a small music-themed park at 300 W. Laurel Avenue, opened with a ribbon cutting hosted by the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, at 4 p.m.
A park built around music
The pocket park packs a surprising amount into its modest footprint. It features an amphitheater that seats roughly 100 people, permanent outdoor musical instruments placed beside a handicapped-accessible stage, and a landscaped tree buffer running along Highway 98. The design gives visitors a place to gather for performances while reflecting the city’s effort to tie the space to Foley’s identity as a hub for music and the arts.
Funding for the musical instruments came through an AARP Community Grant received by Foley Main Street, the organization that has championed improvements in the city’s historic commercial district.
A partnership across agencies
The project came together through cooperation among several entities. The City of Foley leases the lot from the Baldwin County Board of Education, which owns the land next to Foley Middle School, and Foley Main Street helped drive the effort to transform it into usable public space.
City officials invited the public to attend the opening celebration and try out the new amenity, which sits within walking distance of the shops and restaurants of Foley’s historic downtown.
