West Florida Public Library Book Drops Closed Until After Aug. 18 Primary Election
West Florida Public Library System book drops are closed until after the Aug. 18 primary election to avoid confusion with vote-by-mail ballot returns.
All West Florida Public Library System book drops will remain closed until after the Aug. 18 primary election, library officials announced.
Patrons who need to return materials during the closure can do so at the service desk inside any West Florida Public Library branch.
Officials said the book drops were closed to avoid confusion for voters attempting to return vote-by-mail ballots, since some library branches also serve as early voting sites or Election Day precinct locations.
Returning a mail ballot
In Florida, vote-by-mail ballots must be received by the county Supervisor of Elections by 7 p.m. on Election Day to be counted; a postmark is not enough. Voters in Escambia County can return completed mail ballots to the Supervisor of Elections office or to the secure ballot intake stations staffed at early voting sites, not to library book drops.
