Florida drivers are enjoying a brief period of stability at the pump, but industry analysts warn that rising crude oil and gasoline futures could soon translate into higher prices at local stations.
The state average for regular unleaded gasoline held steady at .86 per gallon this week, essentially unchanged from the prior week, according to the latest AAA fuel report. The national average, meanwhile, ticked slightly higher, climbing from .07 to .10 per gallon over the same period.
Regional Price Variations
Gas prices across the region show notable variation. In the Escambia County area, the average came in at .79 per gallon, the lowest in the state. Some stations in the Cantonment area were offering regular unleaded as low as .69 per gallon, providing relief for budget-conscious motorists.
Crude Oil and Futures on the Rise
Behind the scenes, the wholesale cost picture is shifting. The price of crude oil climbed from 4.50 to 7.06 per barrel during the week, a jump of nearly 3 percent. Gasoline futures followed suit, rising from .27 to .35 per gallon. These increases typically take one to two weeks to filter through to retail pump prices, as fuel retailers pass along higher costs from their suppliers.
AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins, speaking on behalf of The Auto Club Group, noted that the disconnect between wholesale and retail prices may not last much longer.
“Florida drivers didn’t see much movement at the pump last week, even though the cost of oil and gasoline futures moved higher,” Jenkins said. “If wholesale fuel costs remain elevated, drivers could begin seeing more upward pressure on pump prices in the coming days.”

Motorists looking to save on fuel costs are advised to shop around, as prices can vary significantly between stations even in the same area. Filling up during off-peak hours and using fuel price comparison apps can also help drivers find the best deals in their neighborhood. The current price stability offers a window for budget-conscious consumers to fill their tanks before any potential increases take hold.
