The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office identified a burned vehicle found off Grand Bay Wilmer Road as the rental car driven by Terri Sullivan, a Washington County nurse who had been missing since January 20, 2019.
Deputies said tags on the vehicle, discovered burning in the woods Thursday evening, matched those on the rental car Sullivan was driving before she disappeared. She was last seen leaving her mother’s home in Washington County to head to her job at Springhill Medical Center in Mobile.
Burned human remains were found scattered near the car. Investigators planned a daylight search of the scene with assistance from a K-9 team, and evidence collected there was to be sent for DNA testing. The sheriff’s office said it believed Sullivan was abducted, and deputies said the car appeared to have been in the woods for some time.
A neighbor said his 15-year-old grandson was the person who first spotted the car while riding through the woods.
The sheriff’s office asked anyone who frequents the trail off South Grand Bay Wilmer Road, about a mile and a half south of Airport Boulevard, and who may have information to call investigators at 251-574-2423.
