FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Baldwin County avoided a direct hit from Hurricane Delta, weeks after Hurricane Sally caused widespread damage across the county.
Sally cleanup continues
Baldwin County lost thousands of trees during Hurricane Sally, which came ashore near Gulf Shores on Sept. 16, and debris removal is ongoing. Fairhope is collecting about 11,000 cubic yards of debris per day.
Cities are expected to be reimbursed by the federal government for 85 to 90 percent of their debris removal costs, though some of that money may take years to reach municipal budgets.
Lake Charles hit again
To the west, Lake Charles, Louisiana, took a second direct hit from a hurricane this season. Crews there had already picked up 1.5 million cubic yards of debris before Delta arrived.
