Reid State Community College has been accepted into the Innovate Alabama Network and awarded a $101,800 Network Designation Grant to strengthen workforce development and talent pipeline initiatives supporting innovation-driven industries across rural Southwest Alabama.
Reid State was selected under the Network’s Talent Development focus area. Through the award, the college will expand efforts to connect education, workforce development, industry, Kâ12 systems and economic development partners, while helping individuals in rural communities gain greater access to training and career opportunities.
The designation complements Reid State’s ongoing work to expand workforce access, strengthen industry responsiveness and support economic development throughout its service area. In its Network application, the college emphasized that innovation in rural communities often begins by creating stronger connections among education, workforce development, industry and economic opportunity.
Investing in rural opportunity
“Reid State is proud to join the Innovate Alabama Network and grateful for this investment in the communities we serve,” said Dr. Coretta Boykin, President of Reid State Community College. “For rural communities, innovation is closely connected to opportunity â access to education, workforce training, employers, and meaningful career pathways. This award will help Reid State strengthen those connections while supporting the workforce and economic development needs of our region.”
The college works closely with employers, school systems, workforce organizations and community partners throughout its six-county rural service area to identify workforce gaps and develop training opportunities that respond to regional needs. Its workforce and technical programs support high-demand sectors while helping individuals build the skills and credentials needed to enter, remain in and advance through Alabama’s workforce.
What the grant will fund
Through the Innovate Alabama Network, Reid State will build on its existing partnerships and workforce development infrastructure to increase career exploration opportunities, strengthen work-based and experiential learning, improve alignment between training and industry needs, and expand awareness of career opportunities throughout the region.
“Joining the Innovate Alabama Network gives Reid State another avenue for bringing statewide resources and partnerships into the rural communities we serve,” Boykin said. “We look forward to working with Innovate Alabama and our regional partners to continue building a stronger talent pipeline for Southwest Alabama.”
The Innovate Alabama Network is part of the state’s broader push to link local institutions with statewide innovation resources, and the Talent Development designation signals that rural two-year colleges are viewed as key connectors in that effort. For residents of the college’s service area, the grant is expected to translate into more career exploration programs, more work-based learning placements and clearer pathways from classroom training to industry jobs.
