Alabama Scream Queen Sherri Eakin Looks Ahead to Hayride 2 and Beyond

Mobile-area actress Sherri Eakin, a Fairhope resident and horror film veteran, is preparing for the release of Hayride 2 after gaining national attention in the slasher franchise that began filming in Alabama years ago.

Eakin landed the lead role of Amanda after attending acting workshops across the Southeast where she first met co-star Richard Tyson. She had never auditioned for film or television but earned the part through a casting call posted online. Director Terron Parsons gave her the opportunity. “It was an incredible opportunity for a new actor and I am so grateful to director Terron Parsons for giving me a chance,” Eakin said.

Eakin acknowledged the intense scenes in the sequel but was careful not to spoil the plot for fans awaiting its release. “We had so much fun shooting the first film, and a lot of the scenes remind me of our shooting days there and the great time we were having running around the woods and making new friends,” she said. She singled out the character Pitchfork, calling him impossible to top as the chainsaw-wielding villain.

What Comes Next

Several other projects are also on the horizon for Eakin. She plays Cassie Daniels in the upcoming horror feature Freshwater, starring Zoe Bell, about a group of friends who have a horrifying experience at a lake house vacation. She also stars alongside Saturday Night Live alum Tim Meadows in the comedy Nigel and Oscar vs Sasquatch, a road-trip story about two brothers hunting the legendary creature.

Hayride 2 recently gained a slot at the Fairhope Film Festival. Eakin, who has been invited to speak at a film festival in Mississippi the same weekend, said she may still attend the local screening in Fairhope if her schedule permits.
