Dauphin Island Sea Lab’s Octopus Gets Into the Halloween Spirit

The Dauphin Island Sea Lab got into the Halloween mood by sharing a video of one of its octopuses wrapping its tentacles around a skull — a fittingly spooky bit of cephalopod behavior for the holiday.

The Sea Lab works with partner organizations to educate the public and study the local marine environment along the Alabama Gulf Coast. The playful clip offered a lighthearted look at one of the more charismatic residents of its aquarium.

The Dauphin Island Sea Lab was established by the Alabama Legislature in 1971 as the state’s marine science education and research center, and it operates a public aquarium on Dauphin Island.

Octopuses have eight arms lined with suckers and are known for their intelligence and their ability to change color and texture to blend into their surroundings.
