Fort Walton Beach police have arrested a man they say fought with his pregnant girlfriend and then tried to set their hotel room on fire while she and five children were inside.
Officers were called around 1 a.m. Thursday to the Days Inn at 135 Miracle Strip Parkway, where they found 24-year-old Miguel Antonio Gonzalez-Montes, who had been in a physical altercation with his girlfriend, according to police. Investigators said he later poured gasoline on the outside of the room; when the woman and the five children opened the door, he fled.
Police and detectives quickly broadcast a be-on-the-lookout alert to area agencies, and Walton County sheriff’s deputies soon located and detained him. Fort Walton Beach detectives then made the arrest.
Gonzalez-Montes is charged with attempted arson, five counts of child abuse and aggravated domestic battery on a pregnant female.
Police said the case remained an active investigation and asked anyone with information to contact Detective Eric Boucher at 850-833-9546.
