Mobile police are investigating a double homicide after two people were found dead at a residence in the 900 block of Delaware Street on Friday night.
According to the Mobile Police Department, officers were dispatched to the home around 9:09 p.m. following a report of a person down inside the residence. When officers arrived and entered the house, they found 34-year-old Atteba Nettles dead inside.
As officers continued to process the scene, they discovered a second victim, 45-year-old Bryant Washington, in the backyard of the same property. Washington was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Mobile Police Public Information Officer Terence Perkins confirmed that the department’s investigation into the deaths is ongoing. Officials have not released additional details about a possible motive, suspects, or the relationship, if any, between the two victims and whoever may be responsible.
Homicide investigations in Mobile typically involve detectives from the department’s violent crimes unit working alongside the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office, gathering forensic evidence, canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses, and reviewing any available surveillance footage from nearby homes or businesses. Cases involving multiple victims at a single scene often take additional time to process given the complexity of establishing a timeline and identifying all individuals who may have information relevant to the case.
Neighbors along Delaware Street, a residential corridor in Mobile, would likely have noticed increased police activity in the area following the discovery of the bodies, as officers work to secure the scene and interview anyone nearby who might have seen or heard something the night the victims died.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Tips can be submitted directly to the Mobile Police Department at (251) 208-7211. Investigators often rely heavily on tips from the public in the earliest stages of a homicide investigation, particularly in cases where there were no witnesses at the scene when officers arrived.
The deaths of Nettles and Washington add to the city’s homicide count for the year, a number that Mobile police and city leaders have continued to monitor closely as they weigh resources devoted to violent crime investigation and prevention across the city’s neighborhoods.
No further information had been released as of the time of this report. Anyone with knowledge of the incident is urged to contact Mobile police as the investigation continues.
