A 22-year-old Foley man has been charged in connection with a June stabbing at the Double Deuce club that left two Point Clear men hospitalized, the Fairhope Police Department said.
Officers arrested Damian Baker, 22, on a Wednesday, charging him with second-degree assault in the case. Investigators identified him as an assailant in the altercation, which led to his arrest.
The night of the fight
According to police, the incident unfolded in the early morning hours of June 15. At about 1 a.m., Fairhope officers responded to the Double Deuce after receiving a call about a fight at the club.
When they arrived, officers were alerted to a vehicle already en route to Thomas Hospital carrying two people who may have been stabbed during the altercation. Authorities later confirmed that two Point Clear men had been admitted to the hospital with multiple stab wounds and lacerations sustained in the fight.
An arrest weeks later
The investigation continued over the following weeks as police worked to identify those involved. Baker was ultimately named as an assailant and taken into custody, according to the department, which said he faced a charge of second-degree assault stemming from the confrontation.
The case drew attention across the lower end of Baldwin County, where the communities of Foley, Fairhope and Point Clear sit within a short drive of one another. A late-night fight at a local club that sent two men to the hospital was the kind of incident that reverberated through the area, prompting concern among residents and patrons alike.
How the investigation proceeded
Cases like this one often hinge on witness accounts and the identification of specific participants in a chaotic scene. With multiple people present at the club and the injured men already headed to the hospital when officers arrived, investigators had to piece together what happened from those who were there. The arrest weeks after the stabbing reflected that deliberate process.
Second-degree assault, the charge Baker faced, generally applies to cases involving serious physical injury, including those in which a weapon is used. The severity of the wounds described by police, multiple stab wounds and lacerations serious enough to require hospitalization, underscored the gravity of the altercation.
As the case moved forward, it would proceed through the Baldwin County court system, where the charge against Baker would be tested. For the two Point Clear men who were hospitalized, the arrest marked a step toward accountability following a night out that turned violent. Fairhope police did not indicate whether additional arrests were anticipated, leaving open the question of whether others might face charges as the investigation continued.
The episode served as a reminder of how quickly a night at a local club could turn dangerous, and of the work that follows for investigators tasked with sorting out responsibility once the scene has cleared and the injured have been taken away.
