A Foley man is facing murder and abuse of corpse charges after investigators say he killed his elderly stepfather inside their shared Baldwin County home.
William Alvin Minton, 55, was booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Center in Bay Minette on a Wednesday evening, held without bond on warrants accusing him of killing 87-year-old Kenneth Hood. Investigators believe the killing happened days earlier, inside the home the two men shared with Hood’s wife, who is also Minton’s mother.
According to investigators, Minton dismembered Hood’s body after the killing and hid the remains in multiple locations before leaving the area. He was later located at relatives’ homes in Millbrook, north of Montgomery, where he was taken into custody.
Court records show Minton had been out of a Georgia state prison for a little more than seven months at the time of his arrest, after serving a 20-year sentence stemming from the 1994 molestation of a 14-year-old girl. He had moved in with Hood and his mother following his release.
Baldwin County investigators have not publicly detailed a motive for the killing. The case drew significant attention across coastal Alabama given both the age of the victim and the disturbing nature of the allegations against Minton.
Baldwin County prosecutors are expected to present the case to a grand jury as the investigation moves toward formal charges. Because no bond was set at Minton’s initial booking, he remained held at the Baldwin County Corrections Center as the case proceeded.
Neighbors in the rural stretch of Baldwin County near Foley where Hood lived described him as a quiet, elderly presence in the community, and news of his death rattled the small residential area. Cases involving family members accused of killing relatives inside shared homes remain relatively rare in Baldwin County, and investigators said building a full timeline of events in the days surrounding Hood’s death was a central part of the ongoing case.
