Bayside Academy Launches Mobile App for Daphne Families

James Bullard, October 15, 2014

Bayside Academy, a private school in Daphne serving roughly 720 students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade, has rolled out a new mobile app designed to keep parents, teachers and students more closely connected to daily school life.

School officials believe Bayside is the first private school in either Mobile or Baldwin County to offer its own dedicated app, following in the footsteps of the Baldwin County public school system, which launched a similar smartphone tool for families last spring.

“We’re really excited about it,” said Rebekah Webb, the school’s director of marketing and communications, describing the rollout as a natural extension of the school’s existing website and communication tools. The app gives users quick access to sports scores, links to the school’s social media channels and other day-to-day updates.

For parents, the app offers a way to check report cards and test scores without logging into a separate web portal. Students, meanwhile, can use it to track their daily class schedules and stay current on the school calendar, according to Webb.

“It’s a game changer, and it runs seamlessly with our website,” Webb said, adding that the tool is meant to make communication between the school and families more immediate. The app is available as a free download for both Apple and Android devices.

Bayside’s move mirrors a broader trend among Baldwin County schools toward mobile-first communication, as districts and private institutions alike look for ways to reduce reliance on paper notices and email newsletters that can get lost in busy family inboxes. For a school community spread across Daphne and the surrounding Eastern Shore area, officials say a mobile app offers a more reliable way to reach families quickly, whether the update involves a schedule change, a weather-related closure or an athletic event score.

“I love the immediacy and freshness of the content,” Webb said of the new platform, noting that the school plans to continue expanding the app’s features based on feedback from parents and students in the coming school year.

Bayside Academy, founded decades ago as one of Baldwin County’s longstanding private educational institutions, has grown alongside the rapid residential development along the U.S. 98 corridor in Daphne and Fairhope. School leaders say technology investments like the new app are part of a broader push to keep pace with family expectations in a fast-growing part of the Eastern Shore.
