A parking lot outside a residential apartment complex

Prichard Police Seek Man for Questioning in Fatal Shooting of Larry Glenn

James Bullard, November 25, 2014

Exactly one week after a 29-year-old man was found fatally shot in a Prichard apartment complex parking lot, police named a man they want to question about the killing.

Investigators are looking for 24-year-old Rudolph Carter in connection with the death of Larry Glenn, who was discovered on Nov. 18 suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the St. Stephens Woods Apartments. Glenn died at the scene, and police have not released details about what led to the shooting.

Prichard Chief of Staff Philip Stiell described Carter as 6-foot-1 and about 165 pounds. Jail records show his last known address was in the Eight Mile area of Mobile County. Stiell said investigators pieced together the lead after an extensive investigation.

“Prichard police have conducted an extensive investigation and have followed numerous leads and tips from its citizens to arrive at this point,” Stiell said, adding that “the investigation continues.”

Police asked anyone with information on Carter’s whereabouts to contact the Prichard Police Department. As with many active homicide cases, investigators withheld additional specifics about evidence or a possible motive while the search for Carter continued.

Glenn’s death marked at least the second unsolved shooting Prichard police worked in a matter of weeks last November, part of what city officials have called a persistent challenge with gun violence in the small city bordering Mobile. Local leaders have repeatedly urged residents to share tips, arguing that community cooperation has been the difference in solving recent homicide cases.

The St. Stephens Woods complex sits in a residential section of Prichard that has seen periodic violence over the years, according to city officials, who have pushed for more community policing efforts in the area. Prichard, a city of roughly 22,000 residents just northwest of Mobile, relies on close coordination with Mobile County law enforcement agencies on major violent crime cases given its limited size and resources.
