A Robertsdale man is being held in the Baldwin County Jail on $50,000 bail after a Baldwin County grand jury indicted him on first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary charges connected to a violent home invasion in Foley late last year.
According to court records, the 20-year-old defendant broke into a residence on West Marigold Avenue in Foley on the evening of Dec. 29 along with a 47-year-old woman identified as his girlfriend. Investigators say the pair forced their way into the home while carrying a hammer and a knife and robbed a man who lived at the residence, striking him in the face with a weapon during the encounter. Court filings indicate the attack caused serious physical injury, though records do not specify exactly which weapon was used to strike the victim.
The victim was described in court records as the roommate of the woman charged alongside the Robertsdale man. Foley police said investigators believe the break-in was carried out so the pair could obtain cash to buy drugs, though prosecutors have not detailed additional evidence supporting that motive publicly.
The woman involved in the case is also being held in the Baldwin County Jail, facing a second-degree robbery charge with bail set at $15,000, a lower amount reflecting the less severe charge she faces compared with her co-defendant.
A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for next month at the Baldwin County Courthouse, where a judge will review the evidence gathered by investigators before the case proceeds further through the county’s court system.
First-degree robbery and first-degree burglary are both charged as Class A felonies under Alabama law, carrying the potential for lengthy prison sentences upon conviction given the use of a weapon and the injury inflicted during the encounter. Baldwin County prosecutors routinely pursue such charges in cases involving forced entry into a residence combined with violence against an occupant.
Foley police have not indicated whether additional suspects may be involved or whether further charges are possible as the investigation continues. Residents in the West Marigold Avenue area were not reported to be in any ongoing danger following the arrests, according to local law enforcement.
