Mobile police responded to a report of shots fired at a movie theater on Government Boulevard Thursday night, but officers found no evidence that any gunfire had actually occurred.
The call came in reporting gunshots at the Regal movie theater near the intersection of Government Boulevard and Satchel Paige Drive, according to Mobile Police Department Public Information Officer Ashley Rains. Officers were dispatched to the scene to investigate.
Upon arrival, police found a group of juveniles gathered outside the theater who told officers they were simply waiting for their parents to arrive and pick them up. Rains said there were no injuries reported and no physical evidence, such as shell casings or damage, indicating that shots had actually been fired at the location.
The report prompted a police response given the popularity of the theater as a gathering spot for teens and families, particularly during evening hours when moviegoers are picking up or dropping off children. Officers cleared the scene after determining there was no ongoing threat to public safety.
False or unconfirmed reports of gunfire are not uncommon at busy commercial areas, and police say they treat every call seriously until it can be confirmed or ruled out. In this case, investigators found nothing to substantiate the initial report, and no further action was taken.
The Mobile Police Department’s Third Precinct, which covers much of the area surrounding Government Boulevard, has increased patrols in recent months following a string of unrelated incidents nearby. Officials continue to encourage residents and visitors to promptly report any suspicious activity, noting that even calls that turn out to be unfounded help police maintain visibility and reassurance in busy public spaces.
No arrests were made in connection with Thursday night’s report, and police have not indicated that any further investigation is planned.
