2007 Report Examined Incentives and Environmental Questions Around ThyssenKrupp

James Bullard, August 13, 2007

Historical report, published from archived WKRG coverage.

In August 2007, WKRG reported on public questions surrounding the planned ThyssenKrupp steel mill, including its environmental effects and the public incentives offered to recruit the project.

The station said viewers most often asked how to get a job at the mill, while also seeking information about environmental impacts. WKRG interviewed ThyssenKrupp officials and examined the available information.

At the time, Alabama had offered the company $400 million in incentives, including $33 million from Mobile County. The report examined how the incentives were to be used and where the funding would come from. This is historical coverage of the questions and figures discussed at that time; it is not a current environmental or financial assessment.
