An 18-year-old driver suffered serious injuries early Tuesday when his pickup truck crossed the centerline on State Road 20 and slammed head-on into a tractor-trailer in Washington County, Florida, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened around 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11 on State Road 20 just west of Strickland Road. The teen, who is from Wellington, was traveling west when his truck drifted into the eastbound lane and into the path of the oncoming semi.
The pickup came to rest in the eastbound lane facing west, while the tractor-trailer stopped in a controlled manner in the eastbound lane facing east. The truck’s driver — a 38-year-old woman from Montgomery, Alabama — sustained minor injuries.
FHP’s crash report lists the wreck as a centerline crossover, a type of collision especially dangerous on rural two-lane highways like State Road 20. The investigation remained open, and no charges had been announced as of the initial report.
