Live oak tree in Fairhope Alabama

Fairhope Debated Oak Tree’s Future During Hotel Project

James Bullard, August 28, 2008

Fairhope residents and city officials debated the future of a live oak tree during planning for a hotel project, according to a WKRG report archived in 2008.

Members of the Fairhope Tree Committee said the tree could be harmed if limbs and roots were removed for construction. City leaders and the project contractor agreed to keep the tree on the property, but arborists differed on whether it could survive the work without damage.

The developer said a consultant had been hired and that the project would have little impact on the oak.

This is a historical summary of a local development and preservation dispute. Project status may have changed.
